Sheringham & the area

Sheringham hosts many events all year round including the famous Crab & Lobster Festival, the Viking festival, Sheringham Carnival and the hugely popular 1940’s weekend in mid September. There is also a Steam Gala in the autumn, celebrating the heritage North Norfolk Railway that runs from Sheringham to Holt, through Kelling, with fantastic sea views along the way.

Nearby is the National Trust’s Sheringham Park, with miles of hilly countryside covered with gorse and purple heather and offers fantastic sea views. Great views are also found at the top of Beeston Bump, a large grassy hill that is 103m tall and was formed at the end of the ice age.

A little further afield there’s lot to do and explore. Idyllic coastal villages, stunning beaches and magnificent historic country homes are all within easy driving distance. If you want to leave the car behind Sheringham has excellent transport links – the mainline train service to Norwich via Cromer and bus services can be accessed just a 2-minute walk from Alton House.
